What material is resistant to what chemicals?

You can find the chemical resistance for individual materials under "Technical data" in the material shop or under "More information" for the material in question in the 3D printing service tool.
The plastics are each checked for resistance to the chemicals in question. Mixtures are not taken into account. All information is based on room temperature. Plastic resistance is divided into resistant (+), limited resistance (0) and not resistant (-).
You can find chemical resistance information for each material under "More information" If you load an example model, you can find chemical resistance information for each material under "More information".

Durability criteria

  • No significant mechanical property changes
  • No colour or surface change
  • Weight gain of < 3% or loss of < 0.5% possible
  • Change of compression force at break < 15% possible
  • Change of Shore D hardness < 2 possible
According to our experience, no damage is caused by the medium.

Criteria for limited resistance

  • Significant material weight and property changes
  • Minor colour and surface change possible
  • Weight gain of 3-8% or loss of 0.5-3% possible
  • 15% to 25% change of compression force at break possible
  • Change of Shore D hardness 2 to 5 possible
We therefore recommend a practical test under the relevant conditions.

Selective laser sintering with iglidur i10

With iglidur i10, a chemical-resistant laser sintering material was developed that is characterised by high ductility and low moisture absorption. An ideal material for weight-saving functional components with elastic specifications.
Due to the food conformity, iglidur i10 is also suitable for applications in the packaging or food industry.
When to use it?When not to use it?
  • For applications under water or with high humidity (→ iglidur i8-ESD)
  • If components with ESD specifications are required (→ iglidur i8-ESD)
  • For all types of applications where low friction and high wear resistance are important
  • If components with high mechanical strength are needed, especially gear applications (→ iglidur i3)
  • If the application temperature is higher than 60°C in the long time (→ iglidur i3)

Chemical resistance for the food and packaging industries

Food compliance according to FDA and EU 10/2011 has made the iglidur A350 high-performance polymer a popular material in the food and packaging industries. The abrasion-resistant high-temperature filament has a wide range of applications and functions well even at high application temperatures (up to +180°C). For example, iglidur A350 is processed into rollers for rolling knife edges that require neither lubrication nor maintenance. If food is handled, the environment must be kept especially hygienic, making regular system cleaning and disinfection indispensable. In testing, iglidur A350 proved chemically resistant to alcohols, cleaning agents commonly used in the food industry, and diluted acids and bases. iglidur A350 is available as a 3D print filament. Wear-resistant parts made of iglidur A350 can be manufactured quickly and cost-effectively in the igus 3D printing service.
