Palletising robot: safe 3D cable guidance triflex® with triflex energy chain

• What was needed: triflex® R-energy chain set for RS retraction systems and triflex® RS-retraction system
• Requirements: The robot must complete a 360° movement. The moving parts on the robot must be kept as close and short as possible and guided safely.
• Industry: Packaging technology, palletising
• Success for the customer: By installing the triflex® chain guides, all cables could be guided safely on the robot. Another advantage is the high stability and the ability to easily replace cables and hoses.

An additional servo unit was installed on the 6th axis of the Fanuc R-2000 iCF 165F palletising robot, which had to be supplied with additional cable & hose. In addition, the 6th axis must complete a minimum rotary movement of 360°, which unnecessarily increased the chain length without a retraction system. The hose and cable required for the servo unit on axis 6 also had to be routed from axis 2-6.
Due to the large number of movements, it is important to keep the moving parts on the robot as close-fitting and short as possible and to always guide all cables safely and reliably during complex robot movements.

By installing a  triflex® RS retraction system (TR.RS.60.L, fixed end left), the matching e-chain® set for the retraction system (TRE.RS.60.087.1500.0.B ) and 40 additional chain links (TRE.60.087.0.B ), all cables could be guided safely on the robot. Without the retraction system, the chain length would have been too long due to the 360° movement. The TR.60.30 protectors protect the chain at points subject to particularly high stress, thus reducing wear and increasing service life at the same time.
Another major advantage of the TRE.B version, in addition to the 4x higher stability compared to the TRE version, is the ability to easily replace cables or hoses. These can be easily fitted and removed via the two openings on the side of the chain.
