Lubrication-free bearings and reliable cable protection for medical technology

A team of biomechanics researchers at ETH Zurich has developed a dual-plane fluoroscope that can track highly dynamic human joint movements in 3D and capture high-resolution, biplanar X-ray images at high speed. Two types of igus energy chains are used to safely guide the many power and signal cables on the high-speed imaging units during fluoroscopy.

Ottobock's knee prostheses had problems with the needle and bronze bearings in the functional joint points, which quickly led to loss of function and a safety risk for the user. The PTFE tape initially used in pneumatic prostheses also proved unsatisfactory due to high assembly costs and rapid wear. The problems were easy to solve with iglidur W300 and Q plain bearings as well as iglidur J guide rings.
