The tribological polymer coatings of the iglidur Coating series turn ordinary metal surfaces into wear-resistant sliding surfaces. Instead of using a separate bearing, the sliding function is provided directly on the component as a thin, high-performance layer. This permanently reduces friction and wear - without additional lubricant and without significant installation space.
Typical areas of application are moving metal parts such as shafts, guides, carriages, gear racks or chutes in conveyor and packaging technology, in mechanical engineering, and in the food industry. There are two ways to achieve the finished solution: have the components coated directly by igus or order the coating powder and apply it yourself.

Not every powder coating has the same goal. The classic, decorative powder coating protects metal from corrosion and creates a coloured, closed surface. A tribological - i.e. functional - powder coating has a different task: it optimises the sliding and wear behaviour where components touch and move.
iglidur Coating belongs to the second category. The layer consists of thermoplastic high-performance polymers with embedded solid lubricants. When in motion, these are released and form a dry lubricating film - the surface lubricates itself, completely without oil or grease. This creates low friction with high wear protection, directly on the metal component.
In addition to coating individual components, iglidur Coatings are also available as ready-coated plates and fabrics.
iglidur Coating is applied in an electrostatic powder coating process. The component must be electrically conductive; the powder is electrostatically charged, adheres to the surface, and is then baked on. This creates a uniform, firmly adhering functional layer.
Layer thickness:
60-120µm are standard, but up to 500µm possible through multiple coating processes depending on the requirements.
Pre-treatment:
A clean, grease-free and conductive surface is a prerequisite for adhesion. Sandblasting of the component is recommended.
Partial surfaces:
It is also possible to coat individual partial surfaces; areas that are not to be coated are covered. Full-surface coating is always cheaper.
Component size
Our overhead conveyors allow component sizes up to 8 x 2.3 x 1.9m. Small components are coated in accordingly efficient small systems.
Post-processing:
Subsequent processing of the coating is basically possible.
Adhesion quality:
The adhesion is tested using the cross-cut test according to DIN EN ISO 2409. The assessment for each material is given in the material overview.
The iglidur Coating series includes five materials that differ in terms of temperature resistance, approvals, and main areas of application. All listed materials pass the 480-hour salt spray test according to DIN EN ISO 9227. IC-05 and IC-05PF are FDA-compliant and PFAS-tested; IC-05 contains PTFE, IC-05PF is PTFE-free.

Low-friction, dry-operating metal surfaces are typically created using sliding layers with solid lubricants such as MoS₂, graphite or PTFE. iglidur Coating pursues the same goal, but relies on a powder-based, baked-on functional layer with a defined layer thickness and high wear resistance - designed for moving component surfaces.
The coating is designed for dry operation and is particularly suitable for applications where lubricants are undesirable, such as in food production, in cleanrooms or in low-maintenance designs.

When components slide against each other, friction and wear can influence the service life and function of an application. Depending on the component geometry, surface, installation space and operating conditions, different sliding layers and sliding solutions are possible. In addition to iglidur Coating as a powder-based, baked-on functional layer, other methods are available, such as sliding coating or PTFE coating and iglidur tribotape. But which solution is suitable for which application? The comparison shows the most important differences, areas of application, and limitations of the three methods and helps you to select the right sliding layer for the respective application.
No, we can also coat your components with no minimum order quantity
Yes. Individual partial surfaces can be coated in a targeted manner; areas that are not to be coated are covered beforehand.
The iglidur Coating gliding layer can be applied with a thickness of approx. 60-120µm. Different coating thicknesses may also be possible depending on the material and surface quality of the parts to be coated.
The so-called 'cross cut' according to DIN EN ISO 2409 shall enable an estimation of the adhesive strength (adhesion) of coatings (for example a painted surface). The test method is thereby not used to measure the adhesive strength. For this purpose, the trigger test according to DIN EN ISO 4624 shall be applied.
The evaluation is based on key figures from 0 to 5. Where 0 represents the best rating "very good". All iglidur Coating materials (IC01, IC03, IC06) fulfil the criterion 0.
