Saving CO2 and costs with lubrication-free polymer bearings.
A joint study by RWTH Aachen University and igus is investigating the costs that can be saved in applications when lubrication-free polymer bearings are used instead of conventional metal bearings.

One of the customer applications analysed concerns the transport technology of Heineken Brasil. The focus was on 600 bearing points in the conveyor belt, which can now do without external lubricants by switching from metal bearings to polymer bearings. The researchers calculated a saving of 180kg CO2 equivalent per year. If all 160 Heineken branches were to switch to polymer bearings, the company could save 28,814kg of CO2 equivalent per year.
