In addition to high-precision weighing, modern multihead weighers are also capable of dosing and counting. Cameras and sensors are then used to check the packaging quality. Both areas require lubrication and maintenance-free linear and rotary bearing technology that enables long service lives and fulfils the high FDA requirements.

At the heart of multihead weighers are the load cells with their high-precision measured values. In addition to weighing, modern systems are also capable of dosing and counting. Requirements for the bearing technology used for this include high precision, freedom from lubricants, corrosion resistance and resistance to cleaning agents.

Products used and application examples
The example of a multipond multi-head weighing system from Atoma GmbH shows two areas of application in which igus® bearing products are used. Above all, igubal®-pillow block bearing, igldiur plain bearings and drylin®-linear bearings were installed here:

Discharge mechanism flap bearing
iglidur ® bearings are used in the discharge mechanism of the containers. A single iglidur ® material is used universally for all weighing systems, which covers a broad temperature spectrum, is electrically conductive and meets the high hygienic standards.

filling / dosing
drylin® R linear bearings are used in the lowering panel. The panel raises and lowers at a rapid pace and with a stroke of 40 millimetres above the packaging machine, ensuring that each individual packaging unit is filled quickly and precisely.

Inspection technology

In inspection technology, products undergo various testing processes that require the use of cameras and sensors. Suitable linear bearing technology must be found so that these can be moved precisely and safely. Lubrication-free and FDA-compliant bearings are required for food packaging in particular. In addition, the focus is on robust systems with a long service life.

Products used and application examples
The TQS-SP TE system from Wipotec for inspecting and packaging products in folding cartons demonstrates the various requirements for warehouse products within inspection technology. In addition to format adjustments, the drylin® spindle linear tables used here were also used for the precise positioning of camera and sensor technology.

1. lateral and format adjustment
drylin® SHT linear tables with spindle drive enable precise side and format adjustment by hand.

2. transfer roller
A highly wear-resistant round bar made of iglidur® JB is used as a transfer roller in the system. It also offers a low coefficient of friction and works without lubrication.

3. lateral and height adjustment
The drylin® spindle used is robust and enables adjustment even under high loads and long stroke lengths.

4. pressure roller
Several pressure rollers are used for product transport, which keep the products safely on track and enable the short processing cycles. In the rollers, completely lubrication- and maintenance-free bearings made of iglidur® J also prove themselves in continuous operation.

5. positioning of the sensors
In addition to the format adjustments of the test and packaging unit, drylin® SHT spindle linear tables are also used for the fine adjustment of the sensor system. Thanks to their precision and robustness, they guarantee convenient operation with maximum availability.

6. guide rollers
Finally, xiros ball bearings are also used in the guide rollers in the Wipotec module. Like all components, they are also fully FDA-compliant.

Pneumatic flap control

In this weighing and filling system for foodstuffs, the clevis joints are pneumatically controlled and thus actuate the flap system.
